Coconut OilThe soft, smooth base
Coconut oil is the base that carries everything else. It is solid in the jar and melts on contact with warm hands.
It is first on our label because there is more of it than anything else. It gives the clay its smooth glide and a light, soft feel.
Shea ButterSoftness and body
A rich, creamy fat pressed from the nut of the African shea tree, used in skin and hair care for generations.
It gives the clay a creamy body and a conditioned, flexible feel, so it works through hair without feeling stiff.
Kaolin ClayMatte finish
One of the gentlest cosmetic clays, a fine, soft white powder that soaks up surface oil.
Kaolin is what gives Olden its flat, matte finish instead of a shiny, greasy look. It is the main clay in the jar.
Arrowroot PowderLight, silky texture
A plant starch with a silky feel, often used in cosmetics to absorb oil and smooth texture.
It softens the clay so it feels smooth rather than chalky, and helps keep the finish dry and matte.
Bentonite ClayGrip and hold
A clay formed from aged volcanic ash, known for absorbing a lot and giving products a grippy, cohesive texture.
Bentonite adds grip, so the clay holds a style while the oils keep it flexible instead of crunchy.
BeeswaxStructure and flexible hold
A natural wax made by honeybees to build their combs. It firms up creams, balms and pomades.
It gives the clay its structure and holding power, so you can restyle through the day without the hold going stiff.
Vitamin EProtects the oils
Vitamin E (tocopherol) is an antioxidant. In cosmetics it slows oxidation, the process that makes oils go stale.
We add a small amount to help protect the natural oils and butters in the jar. It is an antioxidant, not a preservative.

How much should I use?

How do I apply it?

What kind of hold and finish does it give?
Olden gives a matte finish with a flexible hold, so your hair stays in place without looking shiny or feeling stiff.

Is it made without preservatives, parabens and silicones?
Yes. Olden is made without added preservatives, parabens or silicones.
How do I wash it out?
Use your regular shampoo and warm water. Because Olden contains oils and butters, you may want to lather twice.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Olden contains essential oils (rosemary, tea tree and peppermint) plus coconut oil and shea butter. Do a small patch test first, keep it away from your eyes, and stop using it if you notice irritation.
How should I store it?
Keep the lid closed and store it somewhere cool. In hot weather the oils can soften or melt. That is normal, and it firms back up once it cools.

Where Olden began.
I noticed my hairline was moving back and my hair was getting thinner.
So I looked at what I was putting in it. I read the labels on every product I used, and I couldn't pronounce half of the ingredients.
That's why I started Olden.
